FYI- I was up by the Feather River this last weekend and there were big salmon rolling all over. I was visiting a buddy who's been following my fishing adventures and was AMPED to wet some lines. We found a spot on the river that was open to steelhead/trout fishing, and tied up some little 1/4-oz spinners. I had no aspirations that we'd actually catch a steelhead, but he was so amped we just had to go try. I borrowed an 8', 2-piece ugly stick casting rod with some cheapy baitcaster spooled with who-knows-how-old 6 pound test line. It was a righty, I fish lefty...

Long story short, I caught and carefully released a beautiful 7-8 pound chrome chinook, and minutes later had an epic 10+ minute battle with a 25 + pound fish that ended in snapped 6-lb test... That thing put on a hell of an airshow, coming several feet out of the water a few times, and leading me up and down the section of river a couple times. I just kept the drag loose and let him do his thing.

We stopped fishing soon after that because we clearly weren't hitting our target species.

That fight was amazing though.... Gets  my heart racing just thinking of it.

This was near Oroville. The area we fished is closed to salmon fishing, but open to steelhead/trout.

It was GREAT to see so many salmon up there this early.

Low numbers. Few caught at the basin, few at Sailor, slow at the mouth. Lil too early.

We do, its usually around the September time frame when there are large quantities of Salmon in the river. In the AR, July and first part of August are usually slower and kind of hit or miss. Keep your eyes posted for a future F-N-C  as this is going to be discussed with the SacCrew soon.

Here are a couple pictures from last years.

I was out yesterday tossing spinners. Talked with a few people otw everyone's reply was been fishing for a while no action. I didn't see any salmon. fished between Watt & Howe. Very slow maybe in about 2 - 3 more weeks the action should pick up.

Low numbers. Few caught at the basin, few at Sailor, slow at the mouth. Lil too early.

Can't wait for this years event. I think someone els does a potluck gtg on the AR.
