Hello all...

Thought I'd start a thread in hopes others, with much greater wisdom than I, would chime in on gear, rigging, fishing reports, locations, meetups, etc... for PIF 2013.

Hauling my whole Hobie rig.  Any other AI owners going full sail for the event?

Let's all be safe out there, practice good VHF etiquette & remember that this is a working harbor with commercial boat traffic.  We all want to have fun, make it home safe & make a good impression to others in the harbor.

I'll be running one ama no sail. I am sure Chuck and Al will be running the full sail package. Eric, Ariel, Allen and other Islanders will be there. I will have Molly with me so sailing is more difficult and Molly hates the sail. There might be enough wind to sail but no guarantee.

I'll be on a yellow Trident 13 and fiance will be on a pink Venus 11. Or the other way around - depending on whether she wants to give the bigger boat a shot or just wants to see me in a bright pink kayak.
We'll be driving down from Berkeley, trying to reach HMB by around 8-8:30 and just looking for the large group of NCKAers in the main parking lot.
Not planning on bringing much fishing tackle - probably just one rod rigged with a jighead and a couple of plastics. And my net, 'cause I don't want to risk a ticket.
Thinking of bringing some beverages for OTW but not sure what the rules are regarding alcohol. Might bring some anyway and decide at put-in whether to carry it in or not.

There will be people enjoying a few drinks on the water. There has been at every PIF, and I do not see that ever changing.

BUT, each person needs to make their own decision about what and how much is appropriate to consume...

Safety is paramount, especially when out on the ocean. And especially in an area where there are powerboats etc.

That's all I'm gonna say about that.

Carry on.

Absolutely agree. I was going to bring some to share rather than have myself. I think my inexperience in open water and wanting to err on the side of caution far outweighs everything else.

I'm bringing my AI and sail only if there is enough wind.  That's a long peddle back with all that weight if that wind does not kick up.

Don't get me wrong. I'll be having a few drinks out there. And I will be bringing beers to share with whoever wants them. That is one of my favorite parts of PIF...the OTW happy hour when we all raft up and celebrate being alive and on the water together.

I just don't want to give the impression to anyone that it is OK to get sh*tfaced and put anyone (yourself or any other paddler) in danger.

Nuff said.   :smt003
