Hi -

Do you take them out to dry them after a trip? Or just leave them in there?

Thanks,

Unless you fish FW a lot with mussel inspection, I wouldn't worry about them being semi moist. There's nothing to rust inside the hull and it wouldn't leave a stench anyways. I live in Daly City where it's always foggy  and those pool noodles take forever to dry. I do once a year though, spray the inside with water and soap to remove any salt deposits. Same goes with the noodles. I

The essence of pool noodles is that they don't absorb water, unless the water is in what was air pockets, otherwise they would be useless. However opening a hatch is vital to avoid that mildew, rotted bait smell and to minimize corrosion on electrical contacts and anything metal like rudder cables.

Mildew was my original concern but the Quagga inspection is also something I have to be mindful of (completely forgot about that - thanks!). I'm going to keep the hatches open and see how well that works for both.

I usually open hatches on both ends & place a box fan over one end for a day to force air thru.

That's why I never ever put anything that was once alive inside the hull (fish or bait) All the bait I use stay with me on deck in a ziplock and the yak get a soapy wash whenever I get home from a trip. Even a tiny, tiny piece of squid can leave that much stench. I learned that when I left a little piece unnoticed on my shrimp fly.

+1 on opening hatches.

if you leave your hatches open be mindful of what might crawl in.  I was fishing the salt one day when I started to hear a frog croaking.  Made the entire hull vibrate and I could picture the landlord thinking "what the hell is that?  Better check it out."  Shortened my trip  :smt004

I never wash them and rarely open the hatches.

just like everyone else i leave my pool noodles in there and leave the hatch open. I live in sj and my garage is usually hotter than hell during the summer time and it dries everything out in an hour :smt044

it'll make your kayak float if you ever get water inside the hull

If you leave them inside the kayak to dry out, make sure they ARE dry before going to a lake that requires kayak inspections.
