Heading there next week. Have woolly buggers, ford fender, a few other flies. Any tips? Never fished there before.
Thanks

The lake is great. Try where Wagon Creek enters the lake off of North Shore road. Lots of planters. My success has been mostly with 1/60oz leadhead and 1 1/2 inch white curly tail grub on 3lb test. Even caught a 7lb & 8lb rainbow there some years back. I was sight fishing them.

The lake is also loaded with smallies. Dropshot a 4" curly tail Roboworm in bold bluegill on 6/8lb test around the trees and stumps. You will crush them. The lake has special regs on bass if you plan to keep anything so check them first.

I had one of the most fun top water bites there in the beginning of July a couple years ago. I took my float tube out in the evening fishing a clear Zara puppy on 8lb test. There was a hatch occurring for about two hours around dusk. I probably caught 50-100 smallmouth and two rainbows over 16" on topwater. It was awesome. I was fishing the point and flat on the north side of where the Wagon creek arm joins the main lake.

If you have time the Sacramento River below the dam holds some big beautiful wild rainbows. It's a hike and again there are special regulations for this area so make sure you check before heading out. Have fun and I look forward to reading your report!

Thanks bdp. I am staying at a campground (not sure which one),  and will be accessing the lake from there.
