This guy did it a few decades ago.
I remember the news talking about it.
Quite the adventurer, I learned how to ski the backcountry from one of his books.

I love adventures.  Especially the cold, frozen, life threatening, death defying types.  Of course I prefer to be in my living room, bowl of popcorn, remote close and beverages.  Oh crap, I need to raise the volume but the remote is just out of reach....

I think they were using a couple of modified composite Sit-In double kayaks, rigged for single paddlers.

With the sustained NW winds we have been having I don't think they would have made it anyway.  Even with a huge drift shute you would lose many miles trying to sleep or rest.  I don't know, it just doesn't appeal to me to be stuck on a kayak for that long.

Gillette is the only one I've know to have done this trek in a real kayak.
I don't think anyone actually realizes what they are in for when they attempt it.
