While I was at Petaluma Dive and Bait yesterday they said the salmon are in front of Tomales Bay.  I called Lawson's Landing this morning and was told they are about three miles out  in 200 feet of water.

Good for AI but a haul for peddle or paddle.

3 miles a haul?  How long does it tae to get out of the bay.  Its 2 miles for me and 3 miles offshore aint shit if the wind isn't going to be much of a factor.

Three miles is about 45-60 min depending on wind and current. Not too bad for chasing Salmon.

Numbers from Coastside show some biting just 2 miles west of Tomales point. I have never paddled out of Tomales bay, but got some warnings that it can be tricky. See my "July 4th salmon Scout" thread for the comment I'm referring to.

Winds and currents are the issue with Tomales. Even with an AI if you were to get south of the point you might be toast on most summer days as the return trip will be up wind and current.  The fish will push up to Bodega Head soon...be patient.

or just come here.  there are now reports of salmon jumping in the bay up to 30lbs.  I have caught one right by the beach that Eric Abking launches from to go out of Humboldt bay.  The biggest one caught by Gary Blasi of The Seaweasal was caught mooching on the incoming tide at the jaws on the end of the south jetty.  It was around 50lbs.
