Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas tonight
Tonight
NE winds 5 to 15 kt. Wind waves 1 to 3 ft. NW swell 8 to 10 ft at 12 seconds.
Fri
N winds 5 to 15 kt. Wind waves 1 to 3 ft. W swell 7 to 9 ft at 12 seconds.
Fri Night
N winds 5 to 15 kt. Wind waves 1 to 3 ft. NW swell 8 to 10 ft at 13 seconds.
Sat
N winds 10 to 20 kt. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft. NW swell 8 to 10 ft.
Sat Night
N winds 10 to 20 kt...strongest south of Point Sur. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft. NW swell 9 to 11 ft.
Sun And Sun Night
NW winds 10 to 20 kt...strongest south of Point Sur. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft. NW swell 10 to 12 ft. Slight chance of rain.

You're pretty unprotected down there outside monterey bay so you're likely to get the full brunt of the swell.  If it isn't bad when you leave, the surf could be dangerously high by the time you get back.  I know you guys want a crack at the salmon, just make sure that you're thinking safety too.

Water temp is awful warm for this time of year, that suggests salmon will be far offshore.  Just my .02.

Josh, thanks for forecasts.  I'm jazzed to try for salmon on the opener, but you're right about it being far from optimal conditions right now.

We have the rest of spring and all summer to get our salmon fix.

Ouch, that forecast doesn't look good. Chefstefanos' Pinos site has a big NW exposure, except for the little island. Even Lover's Point can get gnarly in a big NW swell. The next closest launch that would be fairly well protected would be at Stillwater Cove/Pebble Beach. Even then, I don't know how far out the cove you would want to go.:smt009

Good Luck

Maybe Lover's point then.  It looks more protected.  I don't mind swell or wind as long as I can land safely.  Anyone familliar with that launch think it would be ok?  I'e been out off the SC lighthouse in fairly large swells that started breaking after the wind came up. It's not what you want to fish in but with an early start we can get 4 or 5 hours of fishing in before the wind typically starts to blow.

From Bayside Marine:

" There [have] been some boaters coming from Moss Landing to Santa Cruz to get end ties. There are great signs from 100-200 feet of water from the East edge of the Soquel Hole to Moss Landing. The water is getting colder and the opener should be good."
