I've been thinking about changing out my stock seat in my Outback and making something custom to raise me up a bit. The questions is how high would you want a raised seat to be considering how stable the Outback is. I'm sure everyone would have a different preference but what do you think would be a starting point?

I built a closed cell foam pad about 2" thick, it could still be alot higher than that.
Starting to think about customizing one of those low beach chairs to go strait across the top of the sides. ( or at least that high)
With the pad, it raises me up that I've crushed the back of the seat down now. Goint to either do the beach chair thing or make the back of the stock seat stiffer with some birch ply.

I double up with a seat that has a tall back and a lumbar that is removeable with 2rod holder on it as well as other stuff.

I have a surf to summit expedition seat for my outback and really like it. I really hated the stock seat, no support at all. Lumbar was cool though.

+1 oh hating the stock OB seat! :smt012

I have a Surf -to-Summit GTS? (Been a few years now since I've looked at it's name) much more comfortable than the stock.  Had issues with sore backside and hips while using the stock seat.

+2 hate the stock seat! 5+ hours on that thing and your lower back will be sore. I've added a cheapo stadium seat cushin which has somewhat helped.
