The ocean's been crazy-bad for a week up here, and the rest of this week is still bad.  The weekend forecast has shaped up nicely though, and I hope to get out for salmon trolling out of Humboldt Bay.  While Shelter Cove and Trinidad offer easier launches and better scenery, and Shelter Cove has salmon opportunities closest to shore, the consistency of the salmon bite is best off of Eureka.  It entails paddling a significant number of miles, but the potential payoff is a sweet one.  If you've ever caught a big lingcod just imagine that fish on steroids and you'll start to understand the allure of chasing salmon.

Fallback opportunity on a trip to the HBO area is rockies/lingcod along the jetties, but salmon is the focus.  I'll troll 10 miles both days if conditions and my wife allow it.  Feel free to join in if you're experienced in the ocean, have all the gear, and are ready to paddle the miles.  :smt001

Go get 'em Eric.  I like the look of that forecast  :smt007, I may get out Sunday for salmon but I prefer Trinidad, will check the radio chatter and HTC for intel.  I'm planning on Trinidad for rockfish and lings Saturday but will fish a salmon mooching rig just in case  :smt006

Havnt decided yet.  Pete said the salmon bite was off today in Shelter Cove, but as usual the lings were nonstop and he got some good blacks and coppers.  Im tired of being a day late fishing for salmon so I may go out of Humboldt bay too, depending on the intel for Trinidad since today looked like a good hot bite for 20lb fish and another mile or so and I can look for a big halibut, but I can do the same from Humboldt bay too.

Decisions....
