I plan to put a camper shell on my truck.  If I put racks on the shell, that could make it too tall for some covered parking lots.  Do both the Thule and Yakima have removable towers?

thanks,
Nate

i'd say if you have 8ft of clearance you should be good at most garages.

granted my truck is relatively low (2WD) but it isn't lowered. I have Yakima racks and rarely if ever worry about parking garages.
That said, my yakima racks are easily removable, and then there are only the steel gutter brackets left.

On my old truck I used a 4" deep basket rack, and that plus 3" of lift plus tires made rack contact with innumerable hanging garage signs and carport support beams, especially in the Anchorage airport :smt003 (I always thought that was funny, in a state where lifted 4WD trucks are more common than anything, that the garage signs were hanging at about 7ft)

Word of caution: before driving down a curving path to an underground lot, check the clearance first. Backing out can be a beotch!!
