when does the salmon run start up there? my family and i are going to stay up there fo 4 days in late Aug and i heard that the Russian River gets a pretty decent run and i am trying to get in on some of that action. I would assume it would be the same going for them up there...Spinners, K-17 and sardine wrap or jigging. can anyone else conform or deny that? or at least put me in the ballpark?

that would be a bad idea (salmon may not be retained and probably not targeted on the russian). fish for smallmouth.

The mouth, estuary and the river are off limits to salmon fishing, but there is good small mouth fishing to be had in the river, where are you staying? by august  you should have some salt time under your belt and you could do some rockfishing or salmon trolling in the salt a little further north ie fort Ross/Timber cove launches.Cameron

We are staying just up river of Russian gulch. There is a camp ground called Hilton Park family campground. So where the Russian meets the ocean I cannot fish at all or just for salmon. I can fish for rock fish and everything else. Right?

Check the regs.  The mouth of the russian is an MPA.  No salmon take.

If you want to fish for rockfish go up the coast 10 miles from the mouth ... Fort Ross, Timber Cover, Ocean Cove, Salt Point ...
