I'm taking my 4 young kids camping this weekend for Father's day. It'll be camping in a big tent. I was thinking about Almanor at first, but wonder if anyone has any better suggestions for a camping/shore fishing trip?

Wondering about Summit Lake? Any other suggestions?

Check out Scotts Flat Lake and Sly Park. Camped at Scotts Flat twice last year and was just at Sly Park last week. Both are nice places to camp with the family. If you can, go on a weekday as weekends can be very busy.

Collins Lake is perfect for kids but tough to get a lakeside site

I like the sound of Manzanita or Lake Summit because Lassen Area is fun/beautiful maybe Eagle Lake for fantastic fishing. If fishing is less of a focus stay closer to home like Cherry Hill,Potato Patch, Elam, or Hole-in-the-Ground. It will be memorable! Have fun and happy Father's Day.  :smt001

Butte Lake on the east side of Lassen Park if you are up for a bit longer drive. Great end of the road camping with day hikes and plenty to keep kids occupied.

Juniper lake out of Chester is nice.

All the campgrounds at the south end of Eagle Lake.

I don't know much about the fishing, but I like Letts Lake. I believe it does or used to get stocked. It is small, but is good for small kids. Here is a link to photos of our last trip.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Battlecreek reservoir is a cool place for kids, up by Lassen park, the lake has good fishing, and there is always Hat Creek, lots of fish.

Indian Springs is A BLM camp ground that is a nice little place out side of Markleeville.  Cheap, fairly unknown,it will not show up on any BLM site for California, as it is managed out of Carson NV.  Look There, and you will find it.  GF and I pulled in there on a July4th at 4PM in the Afternoon and had our choice of a Lakeside or parking lot campsite.  We choose parking lot as I have to be near the motorcycles.  People were catching stocked trout that morning in the lake.

Fowlers Campground on the McCloud River is one of the tops of my list to take the kids.  Well stocked w/ planters, great short hikes, nice and quiet, with large campsites.

Plus 1 on Fowlers, that has been my boys favorite spot for awhile. Great fishing and cliffs to jump off, and Falls to jump off.
