i am not a huge fan of joining lines together, but i do it to run topshot anyways.  plus, the mono backing never sees the light of day when i have something like 150+yds of braid.  i figure if i'm getting spooled on a kayak instead of going for a slayride i've got other problems, especially since i am more than happy to chase fish down while pedaling.

I pool my reels with 100% braid and use mono leaders.  Also reversed the braid once a year and replace it every 2 years.

Can I have your 2 year old braid?

-Allen

No doubt. I think the braid on most of my reels is at least four years old.

1/3 mono backing (roughly same diameter as braid).  Improved Albright knot for the line-to-line connection at the braid-to-backing and braid-to-topshot.  I've had one knot fail, when I was learning to use it, but never since.

I'm thinking about recycling my old braid for use on a DIY downrigger.  I'll take used braid any day.  :smt003
