Ok-- so i hit 40 on sat.  I got clearance to fish.  I'm thinking of hitting marin coast- or possibly HMB (weather dependent).  Anyone want to join in?

would love to try for the trinity-- salmon, halibut, striper on same day

I'm planning to fish somewhere on Saturday... not sure just where yet.

I'll be watching the reports and weather situation.  If the salmon action looks good out of Muir or Bodega, that may be my choice.

Otherwise, it'll be rockfishing up north (fort ross or so).  If the Ocean conditions are crappy, I'll hit the bay, maybe Paradise for Halibut.

I went to Muir last Saturday, first surf launch, and did not like the experience.  Kayak filled with water, etc...  Anyways regarding Muir, the bait has moved away from the area.  There was bait near the big rock to the right of the mouth but that was it and I did not fish for Rockcod but am sure they are there.  The radio also indicated the bait had moved to Stinson and Duxbury that day and they were picking up silvers.  I think they finally found the bait and fish at the channel buoys (out of kayak range).  The situation changes every day and another school of bait may have arrived with their predators.  I would consider it but will wait for the bait to come closer again.  I tried a modified trolling rig and it did not work.  Best bet is to use a release sinker for Salmon with a 8oz to 1lbs ball.  I think BlueKayak uses this rig with an FBR and herring.  The challenge is the tide and your strength.  I could not travel the speed I needed and could not go more than a few miles around the mouth due to the tide.  Mooching is beginning to be the choice of some of the boats and with a kayak, you can use the J hook if you continue to paddle while fishing.  If you stop paddling while using the J hook you are mooching according to FNG and will require a barbless circle hook.

I'm in the same boat EK...was thinking of heading to Ft Ross, but conditions and reports will dictate.

There should be hallies in the cove now, and there are solid reports of stripers marauding that area....rockfish are always there-- its the salmon that are a big IF.

Luis-- you shouldn't need to do a surf launch at muir-- just head to the far North part of the beach...past the first set of rocks. Unless there is a south swell that will be a tiny little shore break.

Steve,

Just from what I've heard, HMB salmon still seem to be offshore, and offshore is supposed to be winnnnndy this weekend.

You thinkin' about fishing Ft Ross, or Marin Coast tomorrow?  i might wanna tag along, depending.

As far as Marin coast goes, is there a protected launch/landing between Pt Reyes and Bodega?  Bodega has been doing pretty well lately for salmon, in 20-30 fathom range.

More than anything, i wanna stay out of the wind...

Have you made any plans?

Thanks!

Craig

wow SteveS! 40??? the few times i've seen you fishin you looked to be in your early 30's.  Happy B-day. I'm still waiting to hear about the salmon report from the pacifica pier area.  Last week after we got blown off the water at linda mar, chuck, joel and I went to pacifica pier and found out that they have been catching a few salmon a day there, a couple silvers too.

I may check that out,  jtf..

late or early update-- looks like we'll take a peak at muir, if windy (calm and foggy at my house), then off to paradise from 'butts & stripers
