I'm really excited about purchasing a revo13 over the weekend from another NCKA.  Huang was very helpful, but as a newbie, the info was a bit overwhelming and did not quite obsorb all the info.  I'm over the hump of convincing the wife about getting into kayak fishing, now, i need to quietly accumulate the accessories needed to get in the water.   I believe I need to buy the following: vhf radio, portable gps, dry suit, and fishfinder.  Here are my projected budget:

vhf radio & gps - $150/each
dry suit - $500  (currently I have found a used/unworned kokatat meridian for $500)
fish finder - up to $300 (I can be flexible if it means I can catch more fish) : )

I'm going to start in lakes and reservoirs for a while until I'm confidence being in the kayak and willing to take on more.  Anyway, thanks in advance for your advice.

A dry suit is great, however you may find that a set of "farmer john" wetsuit bottoms and a nice all-weather jacket will be better suited for lakes/rivers at 1/5 the cost.  Money better spent on a quality life jacket, vhf radio & gps/fishfinder.

If your going to start in lakes and reservoirs, skip on the drysuit for now.  You will be way too hot in it during the summer on the lakes.  Then I would still start out with a decent farmer john style wetsuit and paddling jacket before jumping into a DS.  You can also purchase a FishFinder with a GPS for around 300 and skip on the handheld.  Buy a $100 VHF (WM or Standard Horizon) and pay the extra for the extended warranty for around 20-30 bucks.  It's worth it to buy it for the FF too for peace of mind.

There now your $1100 dollars in acessories is just about $450.   :smt002
