Got out at sunrise from MBK this morning. It was nice and flat early. Headed to the kelp beds, but did not get anything. Went around the orange drum buoy and had limits of rockfish within 45 minutes (0700-0745). Some were nice size, but it was a catch and release day. No lings whatsoever. As the sun came up the seabreeze came on quickly and started drifting at a pretty good pace. Allen and his group came by and they were catching a few. Really slowed down after 0800 with only a few more until I came in around 1000. Really nice early, but the swells started pounding by the time I came in.

That's what it looks like to me, Bill.  Red lips and all.
Saltwater is the cure for everything that ails us,
sweat, tear or the sea.

I compared it with some DFG pictures and it is likely a Treefish. My first one. Definitely have to get one of those picture guides to identify all the different species here.
