Going to do some camping in the upcoming weeks with friends and family at the McConnell State Recreation Area which is next to the Merced River. We've never been there yet.  Dad is planning to bring the yaks and i'm wondering if anyone has any tips or experience with kayaking in this section of river - launch and retrieval, can we launch from the camping area and sail back upstream ok, fishing tips in this area?  Campsite webpage says there is bass, perch, and catfish. :fish

any experience would be greatly appreciated! :smt001
