The other down side is the seat is not really fixed to the boat so if you do roll in the surf you have fumble with the seat before you can hop back in.... Usually after eating another wave or two.

I did not experience this problem...I got creamed by a big wave and had no problem flipping the Cuda back over and jumping right back in before the next wave came...my recollection is that the seat stayed put just fine after the wipeout, and Marcos RockRoach also ate it going out (he was actually in his Coosa, but with the same seat) and he jumped back on right away as well. In the low position the seat straps down pretty tight and it shouldn't shift much when the boat is flipped...

I will try and post some vids of me capsizing and jumping back on in the future, but for now I would say the best advice (as always) is to demo one and see if you feel the boat will work for you.

I was given one for free and gave it back because I couldn't say it was better than a Trident.

Yah I have been trying to find a green Malibu X-factor in Northern California but all the dealers have to call Malibu kayaks and the time limit keeps getting pushed further out  :smt013.  So I decided to demo a Cuda at Adventures Edge in Eureka today but have to wait till Monday to talk to someone that can make it happen :smt009. I try to buy locally as much as possible but as of now this isn't happening for me in Humboldt :smt010.

If your still looking for an X factor there is a factory second sale next weekend in paramount CA. x factor standard is $339, fish and dive model is $450. I've owned 2 malibus and have logged a good amount of seat time in a cuda 14. IMHO the cuda wins hands down. Faster, more comfortable, better deck lay out.
