Westport WA report

There used to be a section for Northwest reports, but I don't see it anymore, and being a proud father I felt like sharing this.

In 2008 my oldest daughter asked me to take her fishing, she was 6 at the time.  I hadn't fished since I was a young teenager and thought it was a great idea. 

She turns 11 on April 1st and has been asking me to take her fishing a lot recently.  It's been a long winter and due to them only having wetsuits and for other obvious reasons, I don't take the kids out when it's freezing cold.

This past weekend looked to be around 50 with favorable swell direction, tides, and winds.  Finally everything alligned for a salt trip.  I took my wife's drysuit and put it on my 10 year old, slapped on a life jacket with a rescue strobe and it looked safe to me, so we made reservations at a hotel in westport and the family took a weekend trip.

Not wanting her to experience seasickness her first time on the salt, I made sure she had some dramamine before bed and first thing in the morning.  We suited up, and headed to the beach.  We met up with some fellow NWKA members and launched around 0730. 

Nobody was really getting anything, and I caught a really tiny rockfish, then the kid starts hollering:

Right after her catch, I had something big on and she starts saying "I hope it's not bigger than mine!" and then it ripped my 10" grub in half and the line went slack, at which point she started laughing. 


Got these text messages the next day:

Pretty much your daughter outfished 6 grown men

On her first ocean trip

That was awesome.

For me, it's with my grandkids. They never get tired fishing. Grandma would say, let's go and the kids would say one more cast which leads to more unending casts.
