my wife and i went to ocean cove sonoma on opening day, lots of small powerboats launching there and some woodsy people who looked at us funny and probably thought they were pretty manly with a 14' aluminum with a 5hp motor. tide was super low which looked weird. first time i have been ther in those conditions. foggy but ok when we went out. fog lifted and wind picked up. found some nice reefs and got a couple of vermillion and one ling at 27".

vermillion was caught in like 40 feet of water and was about 22". i always thought the larger ones were out deep. ling fought real good and ran a few times so i was surprised to see it was 27" and not more when it arrived at the kayak.

we fished in about 35-75 feet max. we didnt go far out. swells were random and ocean got pretty weird each 5 minutes or so.

we hooked many many fish that morning. seemed like as soon as the jig hit bottom it would get snapped up. i used a shimano butterfly jig with a strip of squid. worked real well. didnt lose a single lure which i liked.

funny part of it all was that after going out and coming back in the same folks who were crackin jokes to each other about us had fewer fish and even smaller fish after all that work with a boat. then i hear one of the guys scream like a  :baby :baby :baby BABY when the fish jumped on the cleaning table.

would definitely go there again when i have time. fort ross is also great.
