Hi,

I'm looking to purchase my first baitcasting  reel. I read about Avets MC reels and would like to purchase one. I need advise about MC - does it really work?

I plan to use this reel for set up that will be used for sturgeon, maybe halibut and cod fishing. please share your thoughts about what reel should I go SX or MXJ/MXL.

Thank you,
Igor

For the species you mention not a ton of casting will be required. The SX is WAY enough reel for the fish you wanna target.

Don't get the MC for the species you listed. It slows the freespool which is not good for vertical jigging.

SX, non-mc.  They're conventional reels, baitcasting is for the greenbass crowd  :smt003

Bought an SX last year (no mc), perfect reel for rock fish ,lings, handles big game just fine and not too big. Be sure to get a good jigging rod. I use the Penn Carnage jigging rod $130

Hey Igor,
I bought an SX off of Sonny and even though I haven't had the chance to use it yet, it looks like its going to be a good reel.  One of the reasons I like it, is it has a lever drag and it is small and compact.
