Sad to report a theft at this nice little launch next to the Marin Rod & Gun Club.  I believe it's called the Starkweather Shoreline Park -- and apparently thieves watch it.

I actually watched it go down through my binocs -- a mid/large white pickup stopped on both sides of my truck and sped off.  Watch for the white truck!  Or launch closer to San Quentin.

This happened in full light of day, around 5:00 p. m.

good to know - thanks for the info.

I was almost a victim myself (someone jammed a screwdriver up the drivers side door handle to try to gain access) All I had sitting on the drivers side seat was an REI paper bag. I have learned not leave anything visible inside my truck....in fact, I leave my glove compartment open and empty - just so that the would-be thief knows that there's nothing to steal.

Geeez....is nothing sacred!  I would be glad to sit in the adjacent parking lot with my own binoculars if you would like to launch again.  Sometimes karma needs a little boost.

Gotta say, that's how I'm feeling about it too, though I don't actually have a rifle.  Thankfully the work laptop was insured, but there's plenty else that I'm having to replace:

-- the window on my shell; since it's the whole sliding thing and not just the glass, it's costly
-- iPod mp3 player
-- 'air card' modem that was in my laptop computer (work is insured on the computer itself) for 2c's!
-- the bag my kayak came in, also a tad overpriced at 200
-- my first ever pair of expensive polarized sunglasses, which I got to own for a full three weeks
-- a nice fleece jacket, jeans, other stuff that's not expensive but adds up anyway

All the electronic stuff was behind the seat in my laptop bag, and the rest was in a closed duffel lying on the bed in back.  I think the creeps may have watched me drive up and do my last email check on the wireless.   :smt013

i went to redwood city harbor to test my ff in some shallow waters and saw a white pickup truck, raised toyota with a guy sitting in there scoping me out while i was unloading. i stayed in the water a total of 5 minutes and watched my car the whole time. when i got back he was gone. while unloading i kept looking at him and he was kind of hiding out looking suspicious.

i dont want to point fingers but it was mighty suspicious. he was sittin there just wtaching who was using the ramp.

I have heard of people loading rock salt and bacon into shotgun shells to deter tresspassers. The bacon makes a nice SLAP sound.

You dont want to end up inside San Quentin! :smt006

Yeah it would be nice to hook up an electric fence somehow so when they open the door then they get jolted!

Stealing from a fisherman = Poaching! :smt013
