Do you want the large size for lings and halibut?

Sure.  And fuller bodies.  And multi-color, 2 and 3 tone.

-Allen

Do fish really care?  I used 1 color scampis back in the 90's and did just as good.

To me it's not a matter of one being absolutely better than the other.  It's about choices.  I've seen days where fish have been keyed in on one color pattern over another.  Or one size over another.  In my experience, while there are days that single color lures work just fine, I've experienced more days in which multi-color worked better.  Or maybe I just have more confidence in them and fish them more.  Who knows.  Choices.

-Allen
+1 on the multi color baits.  Somedays certain patterns work better than others

I don't feel they are just slinging product here.

Hogy offered NCKA members a 10% discount on all product this last year and I have tried several of their baits and had great success.  The 5" flounder rigged up on a jig caught me a couple nice lings and the 10" stick bait in the rainbow trout was awesome on all types of RF.

I am looking forward to dropping those paddle tails down to the bottom for some action.

I appreciate you sending the swag to GS7.

I'm excited to see what a bunch jigging hogys can do in the hands of the tournament anglers!

We still have intentions of doing a limited run of a Halloween color for you specifically.
That said, the solid colors are very productive on their own.

Dude you rock.  The Hogys will slay at Shelter Cove!  I'd like to see a big Pacific Halibut added to your Wall of Fame.

Personally to me the less mass in the body the better because it will sink faster and cost less. I also am really digging the tail section on these lures because it looks long and thin. As for color it doesn't matter at all as long as the light and dark options are there. I paint my homemade lures fancy colors to boost my confidence in them not to catch fish :smt044. Rigging is far more important than color. Saw the previous discount too and was really looking for something like this instead of the flukes and slugs. Great to hear your support for GS7 too and I will have to try these babies out.

+1 I think these paddle tails will do very well.
Durability is a huge factor when I'm choosing a bait and the Hogy stick baits held up very well last season.
I look forward to trying these out and seeing the new colors. Way to step up Ross!

How much thought do you guys put into colors as far as the depth you are fishing is concerned?  In perfectly clear water some colors of light fail to penetrate much further than 20-30 feet.  In our local waters it is even less.  At that point contrast and action/vibration is more important than color.  Greens and Blues are visible at greater depth than warmer colors.  Fluorescent colors show up much better than colors that are part of the conventional spectrum.  Sometimes I wonder as a fisherman if my preferences are based more on a sort of "placebo" effect than real world results.  Maybe the one time I used a blue/silver shad pattern rapala I happened to be fishing on the kind of day that a bare hook would have worked, and now I prefer those colors because I am so convinced they are the best.

Rigging is far more important than color.

What do you mean?

Hook size vs. body size, matching the weight of the lead head to the swimbait , and properly threading the body on the hook so it looks the same as it did before rigging or in others words not bent. Too big of a hook and snags become an issue, to long of a hook and I seem to loose swimming action, and too small means I loose hookups. If the lead head is too heavy for the depth being fished then the bait doesn't stay in the strike zone as long as it could and if the lead is too light it won't hold bottom. To me all of these factors make a lot more difference than color and also seem to be why some prefer to fish their swimbaits Carolina rigged. The c-rig allows you to fish more weight without the corresponding loss in swimming action and natural fall. I know I like to complicating things. :smt044

Nice to see Hogy here....Tried to talk to you via email last year, but never heard anything back.  I used the Sanddab(flounder) baits last year at ORC and nailed big Cabbies with them.  I also used the doublewides and some of the bigger Hogy jigging series baits.

Yesterday I saw the FB posting for the Hogy Swimbaits....Wanted free shipping, so placed a big order.  Can't wait to get them wet and see how they perform.  I will use them with big lead heads and also Carolina rigged.

I bought the 7" & 9" paddle tail swim bait . I do have to say they are smaller in size compaired to the 10" jiggin bait. I would like to see the size a little bigger considering its a paddle tail bait. Just my two cents. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to use em.

Thanks,
Tim

I have been a big fan of Hogy baits for a couple of years now.  I jumped at the first opportunity to grab up some of the new paddle tails and thought I would share my initial unwrapping and thoughts about the new baits.  Hogy's site is very easy to order from, and I have always had full orders very quickly delivered.  Everything is packed very well and I have never had a damaged piece or sub-par plastics...

Ok, I opened my box today and took some pics of my new Hogy baits....

The paddle tail baits are what I wanted to give a first look to....

You can see above that I have 3 colors, the bone, silver, and green.  The colors are great, solid, and the flecks in the grey are not clumped and are evenly distributed.  The feel of the baits is very soft.  They are pliable and just feel like they are going to have amazing action in the water.  They stretch well and come back to shape quickly and without any memory in the tails.

I purchased some 7" and 9" as you can see from the picture.  Below are some of the pictures of the actual width of the body from a profile and top as well as the sizes of the paddle tails on both.  the tail on the 9" is significantly smaller than that of the 7" but I think the proportions are great for some amazing action.  I can't wait to get them in the water.  More pics below.

If you have any questions on specifics of the baits that I don't show, ask and I will take a pic or measurement and post.

Ok, not a paddle tail, but I cannot wait to try this guy out as well:

I plan on taking some vid and pics when I get out on the water and will report back on how they do for me as soon as the weather breaks and I can get to the salt.  So excited...
