Which kayak for me?

Eddyline makes some super light boats.

The eddyline Carribian 14 is sweet!!! light and set up for fishing... try before you buy... Headwaters has them in lodi and you can play with it before you buy it... Paddle/load all of them before you buy...

You folks prompted me to do some more research and I've come up with a plan:-).   What do you think of modifying the loader in the video with pvc rollers, and mounting one on the hood of my car, and the second on the windshield, and load the kayak from the from of my suv instead of from the rear, thus, reducing the height that I have to lift the kayak.   I'm off to Harbor Freight tomorrow to buy some suction cups.  Thoughts?   Bruce

It looks pretty cool but I'm not sure the sheet metal on the hoods of today's cars will handle the load.  If it doesn't work, the dent repair will exceed the cost of a set of Hullivators.  Good luck!

I once had a similar idea for putting yaks on top of our 5th wheel. It turned out to be pretty funny.

In addition to Martin's concerns, I would give some consideration to the angle you end up with combined with the height and angle of the hood/roof. Maybe just take a 12' piece of 1x2 or pvc and try handling it like it was a yak moving up your hood/windshield/roof. The car in the video was short, and the operator was tall. I have this picture in my mind of the back end of the boat still up in the air when you run out of maneuvering room.

My wife's got the MDX too. I think I would rather risk scuffing the paint above the rear hatch rather than ending up denting the hood or cracking the windshield.

 I know Yakima makes a telescoping bar that slides out from inside one of the two rack bars that is used for a place to get the kayak positioned at the side of the vehicle before lifting & sliding the other end up.

I saw someone with a cheapo yoga mat on the rear of the SUV when loading the kayak. Sticks to the paint well without slipping and rolls up easy. Ill be 60 this year and I hoist the T-15 up to the racks on top of my camper shell. Man up you pussies.
