Saw this on another board - the guy is a DFG intern who does lot's of fish counting and etc. As long as the weather's nice & warm you're set to go!  The measuring starts at the finger tips.

I had that in mind for my leg but things keep getting in the way and I decided that it would be way to painful :smt004

Saw this older post while scanning the archives and figured someone might get a kick out of it. I had the same idea a few years back. Mine are just lines and most people never know i have them. The top line is on the first crease of my middle finger and the 12 inch mark is the one on my forearm. I had a forestry law enforcement officer ask me how i was measuring the Greenling I was catching off of south jetty, south of Eureka. He really got a kick out of that.
It sure does come in handy. I checked it on my newly acquired Hawg trough and it is still dead on!
