Applying stickers

I have an OK Trident and want to apply some vinyl stickers.  Any thing special I need to do to prep the kayak surface?  Or do I just clean with soap and water them dry and apply.

I've used a blow dryer on stickers to get them to stick a little longer, though they eventually start to peel off.  Wiping the bare surface with denatured alcohol can't hurt.

I believe the OK's have a rough surface, so I don't think the decals will last forever. My Wilderness boats have a smooth surface and there are decals on there from 06 or so still.

Forgot to say. Make sure you clean the surface well with alcohol first.

Heard 70% rubbing alch works well or 3M adhesion promotors.  That's what they use when applying vinyl wraps in cars, boats, etc

Thanks everyone, I had a feeling they would not stick to long.

Basic clean and wipe with standard boat decals has worked for several years.
This is how all my letters are applied.

If your vinyl has intricate design or if it's big, you should use transfer tape when applying your sticker.

Scott... there are various type of vinyl, with different types of adhesion on the back; ie the ones that are purchased at West Marine are different than the ones you buy at Home Depot/Lowes, the ones sold at West Marine are sold with the intent to affix them to water prone surfaces, the ones at hardware stores might not be....

Also the thickness of the vinyl material might make a difference also; thinner material will flex better (ie expand/contract in the heat/cold) on the kayak surfaces, but are more prone to knicks on impact.  Thicker material may resist knicks, but wont flex with the surface and causing the edges to peel easier...

Don't think thats vinyl; but should stick to most surface and hold even when wet.

Mooch used his special anti-lube mixture on the adhesive backing.
