Fill it out and spread the word!

They may make some changes:

1. Reduce overall red abalone fishery take by 25 percent.
2. Close Fort Ross to allow for recovery in that area.

I posted my answers in the members only forum under: Politics of fishing, ethics and the environment.
I am curious as to others thoughts. Post here or in Politics section.

Most importantly do fill out the survey.

I don't like the format or the tone of the survey. Where are the choices under each question that allow an answer of:

1. None of the above choices.

2. I do not believe the offered choices are warranted by scientific survey or evidence.

This whole document and process seems to be built towards and intended to frighten and soften up any opposition or outcry about the predetermined plan to reduce take.

First, produce quality scientifically verifiable data supporting the need for reductions.

Second, develop a plan that states at which numbers, if resource population a reduced calendar at a specific site will be expanded, how and when surveys will be performed and by whom.

Without the transparency and agenda clear, it just comes across as a back-door deal - again.

While I haven't done any abalone harvesting in 7 years I still filled this out.

What is concerning is that they can make changes and say they came from the results of the people.

But how many people really u d'état and what it is involved when they cat their vote?
Still I did.

I couldn't find where Ab Man posted is reply but here is what I put down:

1 close April ( it is always windy )
2 close before 8
3 limit down from 3 to 2
4 24 to 18 a year

No limits

It is difficult to make a decision about these choices!

I also wrote them this response however they will probably pay no attention.

I have never seen a survey asked in this manner. Did you take in to consideration that once you severely limit the sport that many people would give up because of the ridiculous cost per ab? Are we going to see the results? Or are you just going to say we are making these changes?

3 close April ( it is always windy )

4 limit down from 3 to 2

then I just made my complaint:

Having been an abalone diver for over 20 years , if more limits were put on Sonoma county for abalone there needs to be some changes to Mendicino fishing season. We often go in search of both fish and abalone  and with the season closing in mid august it is difficult to see the reason for this with the little pressure that part of the coast sees compared to the rest of the southern coast.
