heres an attractive way to rig lamprey eel , a local river rat showed me this technique , it keeps the bait stationary and the slices help expel the oils while the bait soaks. it also leaves more room for hook penetration into the sturgeons tough leathery mouth. the cool thing about using lamprey eel is that you get alot of bang for your buck , while a 20 dollar eel might seem a little steep , its actually a bargain...just one slice off the eel will last at least half the day on a hook , its very tough flesh and its very oily  ,even when the diaper stripers are pecking at it it stays intact. you can even pull the bait off your hook at the end of the day and put t back in the bag , freeze it and when you defrost it again later down the road its still tough and oily. I compare this with buying a 1/2#  of grass shrimp at 14 dollars every trip which ends up mostly getting  tossed at the end of the day due to it not being reusable . a 16 to 20$ eel can last for months & longer.

heres a little video i did out of boredom , the original plan was to catch a HOGG but that didnt happen so all i had was this.

Thanks Andy , nothing better then seeing a master baiter in action!. :smt005 I will definetely use this method next time. I always thought eel wasn't that good until I saw this method. Do you put extra shrimp on often or just one little fella?
Thanks
Jimbo

Thanks!  Most of my sturgeon have been caught on Eel, and I find it to be the most economical bait for the reasons you listed.

I typically tie on 2-3 ghost shrimp real tight with magic thread. then sometimes put eel on the end after the shrimp. eel alone i just put a strip on the hook and call it good.
