As requested by bloodbath.   :smt002

-Points from any fish taken by polespear count for the DOTY 2013 PoleSpear Champion Contest (PSCC).

-Points from any fish NOT taken by Polespear do NOT count (so if Joe busts out the neptonics gun and blasts a big Ling, the points from that Ling would NOT count for the DOTY 2013 PSCC).

-Points from Abalone would not count (since abs aren't taken by spear...duh  :smt002).

-Honor system

-All DOTY rules apply of course

-Informal side comp, we can just add up at points at end of year

-Anybody else besides bloodbath and DesertDiver can play along as well, just let me know and put pole spear in the remarks of your fish.

-Winner gets the badass lucky 3 piece PoleSpear I am donating.

Go get em fellas!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

WOW, Informal or not,  Thank You, and Joe for his constant pestering for recgonizing the primal (some consider lowly) Pole Spear.  I better step up my game if Joe is going to get serious.  I hear He's not known as Bloodbath for nothing.

Little pic of three piece pole spear prize.

Think it may be a Ray Odor?

About 6.5 feet with all three pieces together or about 4 feet with just 2.

Recovered from about 40 feet deep, after being lost for unknown amount of time.

Posted on multiple forums to try and find original owner, but no luck. Will now be paid forward to the DOTY 2013 PoleSpear Champion.

Still fully functional and bad ass. SOLID construction. This thing is a sturdy instrument of fish death that packs a serious punch.  :smt077

Hand tooled tip and flopper (looks like it was filed down to shorten it...ideal for close shots on holed up fish like monkeys etc).

Could put fresh coat of paint on...or leave as is to show its history and roots.  :smt003

Would make a great travel spear, or back-up that can easily be broken down and slipped inside yak or in back of tankwell.

 :smt004

Sincerely,

Jim

Sounds like a blast.  I love pole-spearing but unfortunately I live inland and only get to go a couple times a year during abalone season. :smt013

Here is a video I made showing how I make homemade pole spears:

And here are some fish I got while ab diving last year a Noyo:

As Jim said, post a Hook Up/and or check out the Hook Ups.  I live a little bit  inland also (Reno) and make semi day trips. Acutually more like 20- 24 hrs.
Drive 12hrs (6hrs ea way) Sleep 4hrs on way down, the rest of the day.... gear up and in the water.   My last two trips made descion to make trip approx. 7pm in eve.  load up out the door by eight pm. Drive untill about midnight,  sleep in truck, grab coffe, drive some more,  hit the water when sun is up (unlike BigJim exiting the water at sunup).Home by 8-11pm, depending on how long I stay in water.     I try to dive every month of the year so  If interested in pole spear trip PM me.
