I caught a 14" rainbow trout today, trolling a chrome fish-shaped spoon behind Sep's pro blades, near the Trimmer launch at Pine Flat.  This trout was the first fish I've caught from my kayak, which I just bought a few months ago, and the first freshwater fish I have caught in California in decades, so I was pretty stoked.  I saw a few others caught on boats, but it seemed pretty slow.  I think if I were more experienced I might have been able to scrape up a few more, but at least the skunk is off.

way to go!  You earned that fish.  I like those fish shaped spoons behind mini blades.  I have found the pink on outside, pearl white on the inside works best in my particular area.  In fact, it's so successful, I have literally worn out a couple of them.

Remember, take some photos or it didn't happen!  ha!

I loveTrimmer this time of year,it can be a haul down there though, how's the water level? Once you mark fish trolling in circles tightening or expanding depending on how far spread out the fish are seemed to work for me in the past there. I am thinking of hitting the kings just below the dam this Friday.

Thanks. I think I could be available next weekend (23rd or 24th?). Let me know as I think the experience of fishing with someone else will accelerate the learning curve considerably.  Water level looks low to me which makes sense given how little rain we have had. I thought maybe I should have stayed in the area where I caught one, but was metering fish all up the river arm. Seems like there were schools between 20 and 40 feet in 60 feet of water.

Welcome to the madness Matt.   Congrats on the first freshwater catch and thanks for the report.
