Carp are WAY under rated, they fight like bulldogs and are great for kids.  when I was a kid, my dad and I would go out late at night to fish for carp.  we would make up some dough bait out of a box Wheaties and a drop of anise in the kitchenaid mixer (you want it STIFF, and the big mixer makes that possible), then we would put it on #4 live bait hooks and gently try to get it out to 15 foot deep water or so...

avoid trebble hooks as they make baitballs that are too big and hard to set the hook through, also use a sliding sinker above a small swivel about 18 inches up from the hook, 'cause if they feel the weight, they'll spit out the bait.  For the best hookups, let them take the bait 5-10 seconds before swinging for the bushes.  we always used 12# to 15# line and the same for the leader...

big carp get to 60# or better and will wear you out like nobody's business, and where you find one, you'll find 100  :)

I guess I know what I'll be doing in my free time soon   :)

Are Carp an invasive species?  If so do the right thing and kill them off.

Hardly a good justification. For instance, in CA, the following are invasive species as well:

Striped Bass
Largemouth Bass
Smallmouth Bass
Bluegill
Crappie
Brook Trout
Brown Trout
Kokanee
American Shad

Etc...
