Looking to get some tasty rainbows, and possibly trying for some bass. Launching from Capell at 0630, will be trolling primarily. Late notice, but any company is welcome!

Good lucks Ronnokk.  Looking forward to read your fishing report.

Hey Ronnokk!
The wife and I headed out this morning and saw you near Steel Park. Looks like you had weather for fishing.  Did you have any luck?  Heading out of Spanish Flat tomorrow am.

Slight thread jack.  With BOR taking over managing resorts, most are now open for day use with free launching. No idea when there might be much needed resort development, but resort names should back to original..

Thanks for the luck Sailfish, but apparently it wasn't enough! Trolled at depths from 5-40ft, between 18-70FOW. Tried hoochies of all colors, toplining, and a floating J7 brokeback rapala for nothing. Something tells me that the recent rains we had might have something to do with it. The weather was definitely cooperating, if only those damn fish would too!  :smt044

Slackline- I'd advise you to bring some live bait if you're going for trout. I've heard good things about soaking minnows out there lately. Maybe it was just an off day, but trolling certainly didn't work out for me yesterday.

Iva always had success trolling a threaded nightcrawler about 10" behind a silver or gold dodger. .8-1.8mph seems to do the trick for me.

Thanks Jeffo, I'll have to give that a try next time I'm out. I usually run hoochies about 18-24" behind a dodger and try to stay around 1.3-1.4mph.

I went out on Tuesday. Same thing. No one was getting anything. We ended up with 3 nice 'bows and had another 6 on the hook that didn't make it to the boat.  Everything hit on the Trout Chow Pink Bikini. And I put everything out there from Little Cleo's to Rapala's. Hoochies to Humdingers.  Only talked to one other person that got a trout and I try to talk to everyone.  Looks like it's time to head up to the creeks of Lake Sonoma. A friend got a nice 8 pound Steelie out of the Russian while I was at Berryessa. That's my report and I'm stickin' to it.

Trolling question,....when you're pulling a dodger/crawler, are you adding any weight to the line or letting the weight of the dodger pull it under a few feet with say 100' a line out?

pretty sure you will need some sort of weight (leadline, trolling lead, downrigger, diver plate, etc...) to get the flasher/lure down there .... right?

On my yak - I have a spot for two rods and two down riggers.  Even if I'm fishing the surface, I'm on a down rigger.  I usually run about 10-25 feet back of the ball when on the yak, and about 25-50 feet back when I'm in my Crestliner.  The fun thing about down riggers (and I recommend them for all yakkers) is that you can run really light line - ultra light rods - and NO WEIGHT.
If using a dodger or sling blade - for trout - my leader to lure/fly is only about 12 inches. For Kokanee or salmon ? I run about 18 inches back.
I hope I answered your question.
You have a fish finder (sonar) on there, right ?  How you going to get down 35 feet where I was catching the trout at Barely-is-a-fish when you're just trolling or casting a lure that will sink only 6 to 12 feet ?  You need that little Lake Troller Down Rigger and a shuttle hawk.  Just my opinion .. but you can ask John at Wind Toys, he eats some big fish I catch.
