The more we can hammer away at this practice ice the better.  I have witnessed some sad sights along the Delta.  Birds constantly get tangled up and I see them flying with line attached.

All my line goes inside my hatch when I cut. Trying to be good about it.

Agreed.  It only takes a few minutes to wad it up, put it in a bag, in your hatch, in a pocket, in SOMETHING other than the water.  I saw a guy on a boat discard a big ole wad while out on Big Break last season, saw him at the ramp, gave him enough polite sh*t in front of his kids that I hope he'll reconsider next time.  His kids were pissed when I explained it kills wildlife and gives us rec fishermen a real tough time proving our cases when envirowhackadoodles try to take our joy.

I put a butane lighter to my line. I don't burn it, just melt it into one big glob.  That way, even when it is thrown away, it won't somehow entangle a savaging bird or other critter. 

Steelhead fishing the rivers it always amazes and pisses me off me how much line I snag and collect some drifts are hard to fish with all the line hanging in the water. Don't people use leaders anymore ? I always use a leader lighter than my main line how hard is it to tie on a swivel and tie on 18" of lighter line. Much cheaper in the long run. I usally make at least one drift a year cleaning up after others score a lotta nice lures too.

I could re-spool every reel at Super Walmart with all the nasty mono I pull out of the kings river in a year. It is sad how many people just plain trash the area, they are leaving their dirty nasty houses, just to do what, mess up the outdoors? 

What a story with a happy ending, its great to hear the dolphin made it.  Thanks for sharing the story.

A kayaker on a Hobie spotted the dolphin and called for the rescue.

Any cut line from my reel or any discarded line I find goes into empty water bottles and are recycled.

Good idea. Never thought of that.

West Marine usually has a box for used line, too.
