New Melones car and trailer theft increasing (protect your stuff!)

I have noticed an increase in car break-ins and trailer part theft at New Melones this year.  The last two times I have been to NM people have complained to me about either their cars being broken into, or trailer parts missing. Yesterday a guy had a sideboard stolen (bolts had been cut through).


I suspect the increase is due to the sequester and resultant drastic cut in park staff.  Watch your stuff when you go to a federally operated lake!

That just sucks!!! Was that at Tuttle ? The lady ranger down there is always goin thru the lot so that surprises me. Looks like the wife is gonna have to start dropping me off.

It was at tuttle.  I was working there for 6 hours yesterday and did not see a ranger the entire time (last year there was at least one ranger there at all times.

The thefts happened to people who launched before daylight.

Sad to hear but good to know. Thanks for keeping us posted ATD...i keep way to much stuff in my car, this is good motivation to be a bit less lazy and only pack what i will take OTW with me.

Thanks for keeping us informed - gadzooks, that is terrible that people are stealing like that.
