Rain or shine my skippy ass is gonna be out there testing out the new/used Tarpon and trying to catch one of those shiny things with stripes?

Look for a fat guy on an orange boat smoking in the rain :smt006
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I'll be at work all day :smt012 But I think I'm Ok with that due to the weather forecast... Rain likely. High 54F. Winds S at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall may reach one inch. That T160 IS a bit tippy, watch your balance in wind and keep all weight down low... Good luck and know when to call it, and run for cover :smt005
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I wish i can go out this weekend but the rain and distance is really keeping me away. I'll maybe be out there next weekend.

good luck out there. I caught a keeper last week trolling a white crankbait near one of those drop off points

Thx,

Well the port was windy and cold today, only rained once, I caught no fish, my anchor wasn't heavy enough to keep me in place, I was fighting the wind the whole time, and my "new" kayak had a crapton more drawbacks than I thought it would have :smt012 it is drier than my last kayak, and it moves like no-ones business, but I'll be damned if i can reach behind me, and there is zero deckspace that isn't taken up by my legs, I spent the bulk of the trip hanging my legs over the side..

I am going to take into consideration that, with the rotten weather conditions, with cold-weather gear and the fact that I am not used to the new boat, I was a lot more nervous about moving around it than i would be in the middle of the summer in shorts, so I am going to take it out a few more times, hope I can figure out how to improve it without doing anything permanent..

I am also going to spend the next week or so kicking myself for not F%$#$% test-driving it before I bought it..

I think that if my anchor had worked properly, I may have been able to put myself in a better place to catch fish (and honestly that would have made me like the boat better <LOL>) :smt010

We'll see, we'll see....

When you get used to that kayak you will be able to sit sideways and get into the back easily.

but I'll be damned if i can reach behind me

The #1 reason people go into the drink from their kayak when they least expect it is because they try to reach behind themselves.
I always sit side saddle on my kayak before trying to get anything from the rear tankwell. That way my head stays over the kayak and not the outer perimeter of the kayak.
Just remember that your body follows your head.
Try to imagine invisible walls on the sides of your kayak going straight up. If your head stays within these walls you will be fine.
When people try to reach back it puts their head on the outside of these walls. Their body follows and kerplunk, into the drink they go.
I was dyng to join yo today, but alas, I got the crud. Sore throat and cough..ouch. Would not have faired well out there.
Props for trying.
As soon as this clears up it'll be time for some fishing in the snow!

How do you stay warm? When I went to the port a couple of weeks ago, I was wearing 2 pr of pants, LS shirt, & 2 jackets all under my waders and rain jacket.  I stayed dry, but I was freezing

See REI.COM BASE LAYER  thermals so many new products to keep you warm and you wallet empty  :smt044 if you have seen me on the water. I usually have my long sleeve base later on. Sun or cold... costs $$$$$but warm is good. Jus remember cotton kills. The new stuff ie warm even wet. Have fun shopping :smt005

I wear some super badass stuff already (polypro, etc). Seriously, my next trip will involve me stuffing my ski pants into my waders! :smt001

+100 on wearing a thermal base layer, you can hardly tell your wearing them but it makes a world of difference, will bump up the temp between your skin and thermal layer by 10-20 degrees. Plus they breathe so it's hard to get too hot if you layer right.

Me and my buddy got skunked yesterday as well at Lake Comanche yesterday, so no worries. We were trying to catch trout/catfish. 6 hours OTW and nothing. Thermals are a life saver in these weather conditions.

Yeah I am a duck hunter, layering is what it is all about, I always end up with at least one layer of thermal fleece and I am fine, i even forgot my thermal fleece sweats for my legs, all I had was my neoprene waders, and I was comfortable, yesterday was actually not bad, it only rained as I was coming in around 4pm.

That is valuable advice about visualizing your balancing, and the only way I was reaching behind me was sticking my legs in the water and twisting my torso, even then it was hard for me, but I think it will get at least a little easier as I get more comfortable with the boat, and I will feel more adventurous when the water isn't 40 deg...
