Nice, they should have tagged those 3 sturgeon before placing them in the lake for growth tracking.

Why is it every time I want to come in and say "Right on. Nice fish" I always end up shaking my head over how a released fish was handled?

The very first thought that came to me when I opened the link was, "Why does the angler have his hands jammed in the fish's gills?"

I felt the same. I was all stoked because I was thinking it went on the table. Then I read "...released" and went "WTF?"

Anyway, nice fish. But dude needs to learn some respect for the animal.

I read the story before your  response and i thought the same thing, will it survive after the and in the gills and out of the water for how long, something tells me this guy  hasn't had much sturgeon experience and maybe even wasn't fishing for them  using anchovies.

Think it's like someone sticking their fingers down your throat THRU your nose then expecting you to live.

Lame. And sad.

Most fishermen that fish on the shores of stocked lakes don't even know what a sturgeon is. I'm sure the guy thought he had a sure keeper until told otherwise. No way in hell someone who knew what the regs on sturgeon are will pick a fish out 10 ft away from the shore to photo op with their full hands up the fishes gills. None the less, awesome catch.

I'm going to Del Valle Sunday if the weather is good enough. Not looking to hook a sturgeon but... Probably scared the crap out of the guy!

Yep.

Those fish are tough. I've brought them home after being out of the water for several hours and there still kicking.

The last one I caught and kept I beat over the head until I thought it was dead. Wrapped it in wet towels dipped in bay water. Went home. Had dinner came out to the garage and the fish started moving. WTF! The heart was still beating after being out of water for 5 hours and having its head bashed in. Amazing. Tasted great!

Besides it looks like he's holding the plates. Thats all.
