The Fjord Queen is on the rocks at Pillar Point under the radar dome.  It's part of Fitzgerald Marine preserve and an MPA.

She'a wooden hull and the grounding broke her back.  Capt. Barry Day is looking at a big (guesstimate mid 6 figures) bill from the agencies to clean it up.  But they are giving him time to get it done himself.

This is from my post on Coastside after yesterdays efforts.  There will be another one in a couple of weeks on the next big minus tide.  We could use more help on that day.  I'll keep you posted.

Had to wait until the game was over to get my post in. Here's a few photos from Saturday's clan up effort.

Here she is shortly after grounding:

Here's a shot of her from the hill this morning. The sea has been breaking her down.  The tide was in. Debris scattered from here up the beach about 1/2 mile.

Several of our stalwarts have chimed in already but Mikeys Connelly and Velasquez were there too:

I got to man a chain saw most of the day . It was sad to get started on the transom which had broken loose and washed up right side up. I asked Barry if he wanted the name cut out but he said 'no'.

Before:

After:

A lot of work done with the chopsaw. Several disks used to cut up the steel fuel tank:

Also had a couple of plywood 'sleds' to move the collected piles:

Here the skipper himself making little ones out of big ones so we could get it up the hill:

About 50 people from their church group rolled in about 11:30. They headed down the hill, helped gather debris then formed a human chain to bucket brigade the pieces up the hill to the truck and trailer. They wrapped up at about 1:30 after moving about a ton of stuff up the trail. They were life savers.

The two Fitzgerald Marine Preserve rangers were very impressed with how clean things were when we were done.

What a terrible loss for the owner. I guess she was insured right? Sharky mentioned the clean up to me over the weekend. Thats a great sense of community to get all that stuf up the cliff. Damn. Are they still on it. J?

No insurance.  He only had her 4 months.  A local had built her over 12 years.

Jeff That was one hell of a clean up crew there on Saturday, I was so surprise at the amount of people that show up. I'm not sure who call the volunteers from the Mormon Church but it was sure nice to see the younger generation getting involved in this cause. The email they sent out mention we pack up the hill 9,000 lbs of material. Hopefully Barry will get back on his feet soon.     Robert    (Sanity Check)

We try to help when we can in the community and with individuals. Watch the Mormons in motion on the east coast... Glad they were able to help ease the load here locally as well
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!
