What else to catch when crabbing?

What other fish are in and around both HMB and Bodgea Bay when dropping traps for  crabs.  I plan to make my first crab trip this coming weekend on the 17th and was wondering what I might be able to also hook after I drop my crab trap.  Plus I am not sure which are to go to for crabs, might wait to see if anyone posts in the hook up for this Saturday.

Lol .... It depends at the location you are crabbing at. Half moon bay by the reef or doran a bit of a paddle but doable I guess.

bring a Sabiki rig and tip em w/ squid, you should get some dabs...

Looked to me like it was going to be pretty rough this weekend. Didn't they just have mavericks?

they just opened the contest window for mavs.  But the contest itself has not yet occurred.

And yeah, it was f'ing rough out there.  I pedaled around the corner to get a glimpse of Mavs from a distance.  very very rough and windy but there was dudes out there.

Of course it's going to be crappy weather.  It was going to be my first time crabbing.

Scott, there's a couple of spots at Doran where you can get decent rock fish and Lings. I got two nice lings on the opener on the estero side and my buddy Craig got two more today just around the west side of the jetty.

HMB: rockfish, lings, sand dabs and Grey Whales, try not to hook up with the Grey Whale though, I hear the fines are stiff.

Thanks everyone for the info. I going to try and get out Saturday or Sunday depending on the weather.  I'm hoping to catch something on the fly.

If you wanna catch ncie size lings at HMB, catch a bunch of croakers that hang around you crab pot, paddle to the reef SOUTH of the Red Can, drop in and hold on!!!

DO NOT go to the Reef just on the outside and to the right of the Harbor; swells are very bad and unpredictable.....
