UVR will have a stellar year this year for Kokanee.  I bet everyone will be very surprised.  I go there as well.  It should get good real soon then it will be a madhouse.  I did good there last week toplining a vance's pink and copper with an unusually long leader length about 18" and a red/green wedding ring tipped with carp spit/anise/predator corn biggest went to 16.5" and fat.  Shhhhhhhhh.  It will explode there soon.  They shoud be schooling up real soon.

this site is only a few hundred people total, so at least for now,  a post should not blow anything up too much.

unless words gets out about luke brownstalker,  :smt002.

I'm interested in hearing about kokanee. I don't think any other kayakers target them?

It sounds kind of scientific, like subhunter or something. electronics required?

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Dude that is one nice fish and one nice Tarpon 160. The 2 hatch Tarpon 160 is still my favorite. I've got both 160 & 160i but the storage space on the old 160 you can't beat. Once again bro nice fish & Yak!!!

Downrigger is for kokanee, hot day searching for Big Browns deep and if I get desperate I might look for some Mackinaw, but they are usually not very picky.  I usually never take on any water in my hatches.  Once those big white caps start crashing over the yak I go in.  I also stay close and rip the shores in bad conditions.  I might build a pump if it ever got that bad but until then it should be fine.  I will be cutting the shaft on the trolling motor and mount it right on the rudder like a trick I saw a guy do at Adventure Sports.  Pretty trick system.  I have his contact info if anyone is interested in fabricating their rudder to a deadly trolling machine.  Not cheap and he is in Nevada but by far the most knowledgable guy in the business.  I keep my Trojan Deep Cycle big boy in the front hatch.  everything balances out pretty well out there.  I can't complain.  I call it the "Stealth Bomber".

I'm interested in doing this (motor on rudder system).  I have been thinking about it for a while, and I would like to see some shots of how someone else has done it.  I imagine it would be pretty sweet having a motor set to the foot pedals with a throttle like you have on a regular power boat.  Sort of cheating in a kayak though....

I don't have a kayak yet, but hope to get one in the next month. I was already thinking of a trolling motor, cause I also fish the higher lakes. I do have a 19ft C/C, but it is set up for the ocean and goes too fast for lake fish. If you could post a few more pics of the wiring, battery, ect., that would be great. BTW I've spent a ton of time and $$ tring to catch an awsome fish like that, CONGRATS.

I haven't really wired everythng like I want to but this was done without drilling any holes in my yak.  I will have to probably drill one hole for the wires from the fishfinder to inside the yak where right now they just run to the front hatch and the rest of the wiring is in the kayak.  I upgraded to a quadbeam trolling motor mount transducer after talking to a  Humminbird rep at a fishing show, he said that is what he prefers.   Where are you located Snapperhead?

Sorry for the late response, I'm battling a cold. I'm in Hayward. I'm usually on Coastside, but a friend of mine( Paddlefish) baught a yak and it looks great; so here I am. This is also a great sight with great folks. Another reason I'm considering a trolling motor is a hurt my rotator cuff.

I was born in Hayward but I live in Folsom and I thought if you were close I could show you the yak but I'll send you some more pics when I get some time to take them.  I couldn't live without my trolling motor!  I also go fishing without it but it is just good because you can go further and do more.   DON'T LIKE LIMITATIONS!!!

Bummer we're so far apart. The pics are great. I went back and took a second look and there is alot of good angles. One more ? how do you use the downrigger; its behind you? I also like to fish for kokes and macks, mostly at Stampede.

Let me know when you hit Stampede.  I'll meet you up there.  I fish it fairly frequently as well.  The rigger is really accessable if I turn a little to the left with my left arm.  It's right there.  Works great!
