Get yursef a big fat float, cut it in half, hollow out a pocket for one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-bands-GPS-Tracker-Mini-Global-Real-Time-GSM-GPRS-GPS-tracking-device-/120912411145?pt=US_Surveillance_Gadgets&hash=item1c26f0fa09 glue it back together, take your laptop to the campsite, and if, anytime in the night, it moves from where you left it, round up Guido and Cousin Vinny and a few aluminum baseball bats and go "looking" for it...

Or put a sticker on your float "Embedded Radio Location Device."  :smt005
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

or a low tech solution... cowbells (or some other noise maker) on your line every ten feet or so. crooks are rightfully paranoid and the sound will totally freak them out and they'll just drop the pot and move on.

on the other hand a heat sensing waterproof spy cam imbedded in the float would help with prosecution.

If they can see it it's not much of a SPY cam ;-)

Spray your buoys green and label them DFG data collection, tracking device embedded.

What about a bucket of rocks tied to a bouy with razor wire about half way down the line.
