So I'm shopping for a ff for my AI and I'm getting confused on the different models of the lawrance elite 4 series.
Elite 4
Elite 4dsi
Elite 4xdsi
And elite 4
If anyone could recomend or explain the differences I'd sure appreciate it.

Ugh, i'll try and summarize from my memory  :smt004  Think it really boils down to these options:  DSI or Regular, Chart Plotter or Not, Color or Not.  Although there is a lot of interest in the DSI, it seems a lot of guys are going with the NON-DSI because of the depth limit (>100fow) and the narrow cone of the DSI beam.  The chart plotter is totally worth it IMHO, and is really a pretty good chart comparted to say my old Eagle Cuda, makes marking spots and navigation in the fog really easy.  Color or Non?  I think that the Color ones are a bit easier to see in the daylight than the B/W models, but then again it also just looks cool   :smt003  So boils down to if you wanna save some money, go with the B/W Chartplotter Non-DSI, or splurge a little and get a color one, or do like I did and buy both  :smt044

So I'm shopping for a ff for my AI and I'm getting confused on the different models of the Lowrance elite 4 series.

Elite 4 - Color ff/gps with 80/200 transducer
Elite 4dsi - Color ff/gps with 455/800 DownScan Imaging transducer
Elite 4xdsi - Color ff with NO gps also with 455/800 DownScan Imaging transducer
Mark4 -  B&W ff/gps with 80/200 transducer

I currently have the Elite 5. Color and clearity is really nice. As for DSI models, I feel the down scan is helpful but not totally worth it. In my opinion it really only becomes worth it when combined with the HDI units but a bit $$$.

If your interested I have a brand new Elite4. I'll also throw in the face plate cover. MSRP is $299, I'll sell it for $265.00 shipped. Otherwise I'm going to mount it on the RTM Tempo/ aka Scupper Pro I won this year and sell it in the Spring.

But whatever you decide to do they are all great units and the backtrack is an awesome feature for pre-fishing new water.

Als got it.
Elite 4 - color with GPS chartplotter
Elite4x - color sonar only
Mark4 or 4x - b&w versions of the elite and elitex
Then there's the dsi versions which are referenced the same as above but with dsi at the end and they are down scan imaging technology. Personally, I am not impressed with dsi.

I did some product testing a month ago on the elite 4 non-dsi and am quit impressed.  Awaiting my dsi version to test for a comparison.  I tested the transducer tossed over the side and in a wet bath bag inside the hull.  Both ways worked equally well.  Highly recommend this unit.
