Has anyone fished Clear Lake recently?  If so, any advice as to what has been working out there?  Taking my first trip out to Clear Lake this weekend.  The friend I'm going with has been there before, but not recently so he has no clue whats really working.  Planning on bringing most of the stuff I've got for bass fishing, but just wanted to see if I can narrow things down a bit.

Just read that there are a lot of big tourneys going on now. Going to be real busy on the water. Grab some jumbo minnows if you are going out. Good luck.

Bummer.  Lets hope there isn't one tomorrow.

So is that what most people use out there?  I've never bait fished for bass before but I imagine live bait probably works wonders.  I can't stand sitting around waiting for something to bite so I'm a 100% lure guy when it comes to bass fishing.

Thanks for the advice DrHabanero.

I've always wanted to throw swimbaits. Rago orptimum or osprey type.

I don't know the current water quality, but last time we were there the algae buildup was so thick. Make sure you bring heavier weights just in case. I

Andy, I was thinking just that...a jerry rago or hudd swimbait!

Herb, thanks for the heads up.  I do recall seeing a some reports a few months back on here where people mentioned the algae being off the hook.  I usually carry up to 1.5oz weights for punching so that should be plenty I hope.

I would focus on probably swimbaits....maybe like a 6" hudd....I havent gotten out to Clear lake this year but around this time I recall the fish starting to chase bait.  Also jigs...black/blue or brown/purple are usually solid producers.  You will need to find the offshore structure first.  I'd also imagine there are still fish up shallow around tules/docks/etc so senkos or even crankbaits may work as well.
