I'm not going to Elk, but I'm still gonna fish, and bass/crappie ain't my cup o' tea.

Anyone up for some local saltwater on Sunday AM?  Linda Mar or Capitola perhaps? Or I could easily be persuaded to try another launch!

Chris.

I'm a non-event-home-boy myself and I'm not surfing (AFAIK) so I think I'm fishing this weekend, but I can't
wait til sunday to hit the ocean, I'm fishing the ocean saturday and leaving sunday free for
crappie hunting (I think mol and company will score!) or recovery from saturday or possibly more
ocean if I am horribly denied on saturday.

the forecast looks decent for davenport, but I am also considering bean hollow launch which allows access to the
pesky / san g offshore rockfishing grounds that provided the ling I just ate for dinner, with coconut/ginger simmer sauce.

often in august there is actually less wind in the pesky/san g/ pomponio/bean hollow stretch for some whacky
reason. this is confirmed by the pay-to-play www.surfline.com forecast. the wind rips into the gate and
around the corner into santa cruz and is left not blowing too hard in the middle.

GPS or compass and persistence might be required for landing. the bean hollow cove is not easy to find from
way out there. you have to be close before it is evident from the ocean.  if either launch or landing is at
low tide, it could be exciting crossing the mouth of the cove.

my own plan would be to head out for the deep water, bottom-bounce trolling a herring/fbr or
anchovy style plug on the way. once fish are found, I might switch to jigging. repeat.

another plan would be to drift herring or squid for halibut north of davenport,
there have to be some whoppers out there now in 50-70.

Hi Chris,

This is Ken Kickfish.  I will be at HMB on Sunday.  Usually get there at 6am.  On the water by 7am.  Park & launch  near Half Moon Bay Kayak Company.  Two things may cut down on the bite.  Low is at 8am and it will be near a full moon.  High is at 1pm.

jmairey, if this Sunday is anything llike last week you'll have a stringer full of Crappie. As long as you use the curly tail grub plastic and follow MB to the spot you're in there. If it's overcast for any length of time it might help even more. I had a great fish fry after last weeks 8 crappie. :smt005

I wonder if the full moon will shut down the crappie bite?

hmm, the weather looks like it might be marginal for a bean hollow
launch, I might launch south of pigeon point somewhere, have to see.

rich, making the sauce is very complicated, you go to andronicos or
some other upscale grocery store and buy a container of coconut/ginger
simmer sauce from the refridgerated section.  :smt005. It's an indian
food item, but obviously kind of thai inspired.  there is an
established market of decent prepared sauces for indian and mexican
cuisines.

pour it in a pan with some sliced mushrooms. in a second pan fry up
some milk-marinated ling chunks coated with a 50/50 mix of cornflake
crumbs and italian seasoned breadcrumbs.  once the coating is cooked,
chuck the hunks into the sauce pan with the sauce. if they are big,
break them up in the pan. let it simmer while the rice cooks.  I kept
a few fried chunks non-sauced for my two boys.

obviously you can skip the frying part, but it's better that way,  :smt002.

well, I just looked at the wind and weather and it actually does not look that good for bean hollow although I could
be too conservative. there is quite a bit of wind and windswell kicked up today and tomorrow.

So I will go to capitola tomorrow and see if I can catch some anchovies and/or bottom bounce up something. with the
extreme tides and the full moon my hopes won't be too high, but a bait tube of anchovies usually means something
will bite. hopefully the anchovies will bite...  :smt010

there is almost zero south swell, and that north windswell should not make it around the corner, should be pretty darn flat on the
east side of santa cruz. wind might come up a little earlier than I'd like, but I am prepared to bottom/bounce troll.

I have a new sonar unit to try out too, so I've got something to do if the fishing is slow.

I will try to launch not too much after six and I will try to remember my VHF and put it on channel 69.

Hello everyone,

I want to fish tomorrow Sunday, but I don't have the use of my wife's van, so if anyone is willing, I'll share all expenses for a ride to anywhere tomorrow.  PM me; I live in Redwood City.

Happy fishing,
Henry
