Product Description:
This Generac transfer switch kit provides a safe way to feed generator power to essential appliances or circuits in a home or business during a power outage. This kit includes a 50 amp transfer switch, a 50 amp aluminum power inlet box for cord connection, and 10 foot power cord that provides the connecting link from the generator to the wired circuits. Designed with standard circuit breakers, the transfer switch can be easily expanded or reconfigured to suit your specific needs. The enclosure can be flush or surface mounted indoors like a subpanel next to an existing load center. Power up essentials like refrigerator, lights, furnace, microwave, television, well pump, water heater, home office, garage door and security system. Wattmeters help balance loads to prolong generator life. Switch includes three 15 Amp 1-pole breakers, three 20 Amp 1-pole breakers, one 2-pole 20 Amp breaker , one 2-pole 30-amp breaker and one 2-pole 50 amp breaker, and accepts Arc Fault and GFCI breakers to meet the latest National Electrical Code requirement if your installation will be inspected. That is a good price. Needs to be installed by licensed electrical contractor. I installed a propane generator in my house in Nevada when I lived there. The generator, tank, and electrical was ~$5K when said and done. It was set up to cycle itself every 7 days, and within 15 seconds of a power fail, it would kick on. There is a switch that prevents backfeeding lines that has to be installed and inspected prior to service and approval. It was funny when the power went out, we had lights and our essential circuits online. Neighbors were coming over asking how we had power and they didn't. Best five grand I ever spent. I do not have the means to do the same at my Lodi house, I checked, and the offset for a propane tank is too much for what I have. The structure/property lines/setbacks make it impossible to do. A solar battery backup is my only option that I know of, and the cost/savings does not pencil out at this time for me, or I would in a heartbeat!

I am not certain that this needs to be installed by a contractor.  This is designed to plug into the outlet of a large/portable 50A outlet generator.  I just purchased the 30A verson so I don;t need the 50A version.  The only additional items needed are 4ga wire to go between the inlet box & the panel.  I'd love to see it go to a NCKA member who could use it.

Come on Montanan8v .... you know you want it! :smt003

May not HAVE to use a contractor/licensed electrician. . Like I said, I would be all over this if I had the means at my house to set it up like that last house.
