I do it a tad different by organizing by species and lure/gear type depending on what type of water I am fishing.

For my saltwater gear I leave out all that isn't necessary for a few days of fishing and store the excess according to lure/gear type. For the actual trip I take the smaller planos that are species specific mostly to avoid rust and taking lures for years and years without using them. The major downfall to this method is having to maintain enough terminal tackle for all of the various species boxes that use similar rigs. Off the top of my head there are planos for halibut, salmon, rf, WSB, striper, shark and perch.

In freshwater I just take the whole thing because rust isn't really an issue. I also have relatively few FW lures/rigs to worry about and the only species I fish that require different gear sets are trout and bass.

The hard part is really keeping it all in line when you start doing something different or loosing stuff. I go through and replenish my smaller boxes often and reorganize almost everything twice a year. I seem to always find gear I don't remember buying but can really use. :smt044

For the house standard plano plastic boxes.  For the Kayak, I use a small plano with the essentials for a "Yak attack Pack!"

Extent of my organization is 2 tackle boxes, one fresh water and the other is for salt, mostly surf.

I got a big soft bag with plastic boxes inside. I keep this at my house. Keep all my plastics in original bag in top of bag. Then have lures in boxes and hooks, swivels, other hardware in another box. Then i have a box that i put everything im gonna need when i go out. Stash it in the center hatch.
