I have a 2008 Revo13.  The handle to put the rudder up and down broke on me today.  Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas how to fix it?  The local shop didn't have any replacement handles, thinking of making my own.

Necessity is the mother of all inventions....  sounds like it's time to hit the home shop or check with the manufacturer and see if you can order spare parts directly.

you mean the little green handle?  did the line break or the handle?  I'm sure you could rig something for the handle at least temporarily.

you should send an email to hobie customer service.  they will let you know the part number you need and occasionally they'll just send you a free one.  you can probably order it online with these part numbers:

81408001 OLDER Handle
81406001 OLDER DECAL - UP
81407001 OLDER DECAL - DOWN

if it is like my 2008 Revo, its not the "Pull style" handle; it uses the "level type" just behind the seat on the right. (just far enough behind the seat that you get a cramp in the shoulder when you use it  :smt013)

give ChuckE a hollower, maybe he can help you locate the part....

Yes just the plastic part (looks like to much torqe), I talked with the Hobie dealer in Eureka (Greg - AKA CAJUN).  He found a throw down handle and gave it to me but it seemed to have a diferent problem (the set screw wouldn't stay in the plastic).  Greg dug around but couldn't find another.  Vise grips would work but I am just running the rudder down and manually lifting it during beach launch/landing.  Was hoping somebody already dealt with this issue and had a home made fix worked out already.  I'll post pics when I get home.

Have an upgrade kit ordered from Hobie which will put the T-Handle pull cords on my older boat.  Waiting for delivery, but assuming it will be a clean install.

I didn't know there was a retro fit kit.
Please tell me how much and let us know if it goes smoothly.

Can help if you can come to Pleasanton.  Have a couple of million dollars worth of machining equipment at my disposal. Very convenient in these cases.

Thanks for the offer PPICKERELL.  The upgrade kit is $95.  Hobie will ship to my home (no dealer within 30 miles).  You can see the instruction sheet on the Hobie web site to see how to install the kit.  I went to the Revo 13 product page and found lots of information.

That sucks, and has always seemed like a likely point of failure in my outback... even more so since adding the sailing rudder.  One thing i have discovered:  It seems to take considerably less torque to raise and lower (particularly lowering) the rudder if you turn the tiller handle back and forth slightly at the same time.  Does Hobie not even make the part anymore?  Is it necessary to upgrade?
