:smt006 Being an inlander...when I started this thread I was innocently just asking your favorite Big Hammer... thinking one day I would like to try a few in salt.  Thank you for all the input... but I must admit, after some of the replys,  this is one topic, like politics, religion, charter schools, etc... I will not bring up at a party.... :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Where is the best place to buy? probably online as I do not get out much.  :smt002

Since this thread started, I've been able to snag a couple dozen on eBay for about .70 each shipped for 5 and 6". Havent seen anything close to that in retail.

They all produce my favorite all time is the Christmas tree in 5inch, and rainbow trout, other favorites are Halloween and its cousin Creeping Death great baits for lings, Another good one is the wookie wacker and pearl of course, Also think that the Black Widow looks awesome have not fished this one yet but will let you know if it produces this weekend at the Cambria Slam Down.

Dr Dave,

Up in your part of the state I'd probably just order them from Charkbait.com. While not cheap they seem to be able to supply what you need. For inexpensive lead heads to go with them try members Andy1976 or wildernesshunter.

I don't fish near as much as others on the site but Halloween 6.5" is my favorite.  Even a 10" gopher will hit it, and bigger "seems" to work better for bigger fish but that's not always true.  I like to start with something brownish like Halloween and if that doesn't work go directly to white, if that doesn't work I'm baffled.  On the other hand just about anything seems to work when they're bitting.

I like the 6.5" Toast the most, the last time I fished it I caught 2 ling over 30 in., 3 cabbies two over 20" one just under, 2 yellow eyes about 6 lbs ea. and a few misc RF. All on the same swim bait, I think I paid $2 for it. A bargain in my book.

Yesterday I fished a halloween (see TC 9/16). And I'm gonna fish the same one tomorrow. I like it to  :smt007

Thanks foe the recomendation Dale. One good place to get a deal on big hammers is to go on
their direct site and click on close outs . It directs you to sunrise tackle and list some really good sale prices.

Just ordered  some Perch Grubs in the following: Motor Oil Red, Clear Red, Rootbeer Gold and Chartreuse Flash can't wait to try them out.  BTW what is the best time to target Perch and where?

I haven't gone surf perchin in a bit, but I used to do best during April - August, though I've caught perch at random months throughout the year.  I have read though that the bite can be hot during the winter time, but I have not given it enough of a try during the winter to see ifs true.  The motor oil red color is what works for me, I wouldn't bother with other colors in my opinion.  As for location, I've caught perch all along the cali coast, but have had better success in Santa Cruz/Monterey areas.  Good luck.

Just hang out at a tournament with Tigerfish or Ravensblack. My favorite color is free.  :smt044
