Thanks my friend. I've been for crabbing (around an island with spears) a few times but thats not my thing really and am not sure about the types available here. I could get more info for you if you are interested.

UAE is a hot country and only die hard fishermen try out their luck in summers or even in fall.

I remember the heat over there!! That was one of the reasons why I dove so much in Oman...got my advanced, night diving, rescue and deep diving PADI certs over there...felt so great to escape the heat AND to explore the beautiful reefs off the coast!!

Dude...I remember reefs close to shore that you could hit in a yak that were chock full of fish of all kinds and eels and turtles and schools of tuna within a mile from the beach....I want to see you guys get into some of that action!!!

 

We always launched out of the yacht club (the one with Cat Island out front), but I have heard it has gotten a lot more developed in recent years so not sure what it is like now for kayaks there...

Thats a huge catch you posted...wonderful! Oman has developed a lot in the last 5 years in terms of infrastructure and they've connected small villages in the far off corners with road network, good for the locals. There are still some areas where we go offroading though. Fishing is really good out there but going there on regular basis from UAE is not that feasible especially since they introduced some visa restrictions and border crossings.
