Get a lead pyramid anchor.  Many of us pour our own, and a few guys in the club sell them.

If you want a folding one, try WalMart, Sportsmans Warehouse, West Marine.

I had a folding one myself. It was my first one when I started here. It now resides at the bottom of lake Washington, snagged and gone from me forever. The lead pyramids work wonderfully well and don't snag as much.  Just MHO and experience.

Also the mushroom work well.

Cheapest way to do it is a rock. Works on sandy bottoms. Not so much rocky bottoms.

Bataeff Salvage Co
in Santa Rosa had some 5lb folders it was awhile ago not sure if they still have them. Think I paid $12 and they are pretty nice.

I use a 4 prong foldable anchor (get the smaller one - 3 pound - I think) The anchor itself has a hole up front. I like this set up cause I can always add extra weight if needed. No need for a chain because the added weights up front help the anchor prong grab the bottom. Served me well when I used to sturgeon fish in the Bay. Don't know if this set up works in the river....just make sure your set up can "quick release" for saftey issues.

Don't use an Anchor that is designed to dig in the rivers the lead pyramids are much safer.
I use the 5lb folder in the bay pyramid eveywhere else 10lb for river 5lb for stillwater.
Like Mooch said always have a way to dump it fast.

You should also have your anchor rope tied to the front hole and zip tied to the back if it gets stuck you pull till the tie breaks and your anchor will come up upside down
