Anyone have any pointers for a beginner in Monterey? I'd love to go out 3-4miles and pick up some WSB like the guy I met at the ramp today, but that's not happening. So aside from trying in the Ed Ricketts SMCA again, any other ideas? I'm just looking for almost any kind of fish, not picky. Would it be worth it to paddle to the other side of Lover's pt? or go bounce bait in front of MBK?

edit: Forgot to say thanks!  :smt001  Also, just want to make it clear I'm not looking for any honey holes, just general area suggestions.

Stillwater Cove in Pebble Beach is as good as it gets for beginners.  Easy launch, protected cove and lots of rockfish.

I launch from Coral St. in Pacific Grove a lot also.  Now that we are moving into the fall the bay should have some really nice days.

See ya out there,
Josh

If you want to learn and get some FUN lite tackle fishing in.  Launch from MBK and head to about 80 fow just past the CG pier and fish a sabiki rig tipped with a small piece of squid.  You can spend the entire day catching sand dabs for dinner.  Ton of fun on the lite tackle, has minimal investment and minimal paddle time.  The beach launch is easy too....

1st yellow can. Head north from MBK. Sometimes the can isn't there so line up with the beach at the base of the CG pier and and the large metal building on the dunes.

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.
